More about ScreenCancer mole scanning.

Hello beautiful people!

As promised, here is some more information on July’s featured treatment ScreenCancer mole checking service.

What is mole scanning?

A quick, easy, painless analysis of moles and pigmented skin lesion.

THE SCREENCANCER PROCESS

Offering a Mole Scanning service since 2011, ScreenCancer proudly deliver our service using highly experienced dermatology specialists and nurses. All pharmacy staff are trained to a high standard and are confident and competent to deliver the service within the Pharmacy. Our experience and professionalism in Cancer Screening is our customers guarantee of quality!

If you have concerns regarding a mole or lesion on your body, you should have this checked. You should either see your GP, or you can simply visit a local clinic delivering the mole scanning service in partnership with ScreenCancer.

In the clinic you will be asked to complete a consent form with some personal data. This is so ScreenCancer can contact you with the results of the analysis.
You will be asked a short series of questions about your skin. This will assess your risk factors of skin cancer and provide our dermatology specialists with the necessary background information for analysis.

Capturing images of your lesions is totally painless and harmless and takes a few minutes to complete. There is no harm and very few restrictions. If you have any doubts, ask the clinic.

The images and information collected at the consultation is then sent securely to the ScreenCancer dermatology specialist for analysis. All moles/pigmented lesions are privately analysed and a colour report sent to you within 2 weeks. You can receive this report via a text link or letter.

If there are any concerns about the mole/lesion, our nurses will call you to discuss recommendations from the report and if any remedial treatment/action is required. We are always eager to know the result of any treatment received, thus ScreenCancer will contact you again 3-6 months after the consultation to obtain your feedback.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR

The ABCDE rule is commonly used worldwide both by doctors and people in general, thus keeping this in mind as you check your moles could be good.

I hope that you’re slapping on your SPF 50 in the recent heat.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

Love Helen x

July Newsletter

Welcome to our July newsletter. I hope you are enjoying the fairer weather, even though it has a bit unpredictable.

What’s new?

At Happy Face Aesthetics we have opened our Wellness Clinic, which is aimed at helping you to boost your energy, have brighter skin and luscious hair. In the future we are hoping to extend these services to include private health checks, blood tests and sexual health testing. I am just gauging the demand for these services so if you have any feedback on services you would use, or think would benefit the community please let me know.

Currently, the Wellness Clinic is offering advice and supplementation so please get in contact if you would like more information.

As always, if you are feeling unwell or think there might be a medical reason for your symptoms of tiredness, skin issues or hair loss you must see your GP to discuss. Any treatment may be delayed if I feel you must seek investigations with your GP first.

Featured treatment – ScreenCancer Mole checks

One of my most well used services in clinic is our ScreenCancer Mole checks. I often have unwilling husbands being dragged in by their exasperated wives to get their dodgy looking lesions checked. Most of the time the lesions are benign, but we have been fortunate enough to pick up a couple of lesions that went on for a cancer referral.

In the clinic we take a history and measure your lesion, then we take a highly pixelated dermatoscopy medical image. Your record and your images get sent to a consultant dermatologist who reviews them and gives you the result within 2 weeks. Should you need further advice or support either the dermatologist or dermatology nurses will call you to discuss.

Look out for my mid-month blog for more details about this service.

Skincare secret weapon – Gentle foaming cleanser

A lot of people I see in clinic think they have dry patches or spotty patches, and over process their skin in order to resolve the problem. It always makes it worse! Often they are just using products that are too harsh or too oily and need to completely simplify their routine.

This month we are starting at the very first step of your skincare routine. Cleansing your face does not seem like it would be something with pitfalls or disadvantages, and as simple as it is, there are ways to do it wrong.

Steer clear of disposable wipes. Whilst they are great at removing the visible signs of makeup, they do not cleanse deep enough to remove all of the dirt and often just smear it about your face. If you are going to use them, follow up with a gentle foaming cleanser to really get the cleanse you need.

When choosing a cleanser pick a gentle foaming cleanser. Some cleansers that are medicated or have stronger ingredients are great if they are targeted towards a particular problem, but they do not suit most skin types. A gentle foaming cleanser with help brighten the skin, make it feel soft, allow the skin to rest and restore overnight. It will not dehydrate your skin, alter the barrier function or irritate your skin.

My favourite products are ClinicCare Gentle Cleansing Foam (£18.50 for 100ml) and Obagi Nu-Derm Gentle Cleanser (£54 for 200ml), both of which are sold here in clinic.

A cheeky bonus

Our last dermaplaning offer was overwhelmingly booked out and I got so much pleasure in taking away all your dry skin and peach fuzz, I have decided to do it again.

Nothing beats the fresh feel of your skin after a dermaplaning session! Did you know any skincare products you may use are up to 70% more effective after dermaplaning, as the hair can’t act as a barrier if it’s not there!

What Are the Benefits of Dermaplaning?
*Rejuvenated Skin.
* Fewer Fine Lines and Wrinkles.
* No More Peach Fuzz.
* More Effective At-Home Skincare Regimen.
* Cosmetics Will Go on Easily..
* Help for Acne Sufferers.

Drop me a message or call to book in. Alternatively, you can book in online.

Anti-ageing tip – Sun protection

The sun is responsible for 90% of visible skin ageing. This means that most of our wrinkles, crinkles and dark spots are preventable, or at least manageable. Ultraviolet rays are able to damage your skin even through cloud and glass, so even in winter your skin is still vulnerable. You may be relying on the SPF in your moisturiser and foundation to protect your skin, but what if I told you that it is not enough?

You will see an improvement in the colour, tone and condition of your skin when you start using the right sun protections. Choose a mineral/physical sun block of 30-50 SPF with a four or above star rating to get safe all round sun protection.

Ask in clinic for more advice.

I hope you have a lovely July and I look forward to seeing you in clinic soon.

Best wishes,

Helen

A little bit about Microneedling

What is microneedling

Microneedling refers to a treatment where the skin is needled to induce skin cells to produce collagen and elastin. This has the benefit of smoothing the skin, creating glow, and treating:

  • Acne scars
  • Wrinkles
  • Skin scars
  • Alopecia
  • Skin tone and enlarged pores
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Collagen induction
  • Skin rejuvenation
  • Face lifting
  • Cellulite and stretch marks

The skin can be needled in three ways, 1. Via a dermal roller, 2. Via stamping device and 3. Via an automatic needle system. It is widely recognised that the stamping and automatic needle systems deliver better results and are safer than dermal rollers due to the type of micro trauma it creates.

Microneedling is my favourite treatment because it is minimally invasive, has a very short down time (you’ll probably look and feel a bit sunburnt for two days), it is scratchy, but not painful and always delivers results.

I use the Raffine automatic microneedling device with single use needle cartridges that deliver nine tiny titanium needles to the face at depths ranging from 0.2mm to 2.0mm. I also use targeted epidermal growth factors (EGF) that is injected under the skin via microneedling which delivers vital nutrients directly to the cells.

Booking a single treatment will make improvements, but booking a course of 3 or 6 delivered every four weeks will really transform your skin. Obviously, you will need to look after it by applying your sun screen daily!

My face after 6 sessions of microneedling.

Who can have microneedling?

Almost anyone at any age over 18  years can cosmetically benefit from a course of microneedling. Contraindications include:

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Active acne, especially inflammatory lesions
  • Active herpes or other localized infection in the treatment area, including warts.
  • Moderate-to-severe chronic skin diseases such as eczema or psoriasis
  • Patients with extreme keloidal tendencies
  • Immunosuppressed patients, including patients on chemotherapy
  • Has had botulinum toxin in the last two weeks

One of the greatest things about microneedling is that the treatment continues to work on the cells for six months after you have completed your treatment meaning you will only need maintenance every 3-6 months.

As I’ve said before, microneedling is my very favourite treatment and is central to my skin health and skincare. Because I’m and Advanced Nurse Practitioner I can treat you at depths that non medics cannot, and you can be assured of the infection prevention and control standards at Happy Face Aesthetics.

Hyperpigmentation and crepey skin improved.

If you would like to book microneedling with me it is:

£150 for one treatment

£400 for three treatments

£800 for six treatments

Best wishes to you all,

Helen

Featured Treatment.

This months featured treatment will be microneedling. look out for a more in-depth write up in our mid-month newsletter. As many of you know, microneedling is my very favourite treatment and one I personally invest in for my skin.

Many of my existing patients have already had marvellous results and report that people say they “look airbrushed” after their courses.

Some of the reasons I love it is that:

1. it is minimally invasive and has little down time.
2. the treatment has well studied benefits including reducing scarring, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, reducing hyperpigmentation, reducing cellulite, and aiding in hair growth.
3. the treatment is still effective for 3-6 months after if you follow the sun block rules.

Skincare Secret Weapon.

My patients often comment on how nice my skin looks and say that they wish they had skin like me. This obviously gives me an emermously big head, but my general response it “it’s all fake”. And it’s kind of true.

Sure I’ve invested in peels, microneedling, wrinkle treatments and a few dermal fillers, but the quality and glow to my skin comes mostly from my skincare products.

I’m partial to shiny ‘glass skin’, made famous in Korea, because i think that it compements ageing skin beautiful, and the sheen reflected by light hides fine lines and wrinkles. For me it’s all about creating optical illusions.

My favourite product for creating this dewy finish is

Daily Hydro-Drops® Facial Serum “An innovative hydrator with cutting edge Isoplentix technology, provides Vitamin B3, Abyssinian Oil, and Hibiscus oil in their purest forms and leaves skin looking smoother, more radiant, and feeling hydrated all day.

These drops last for ages and really elevate the finish to your skincare routine. They can be purchased from Happy Face Aesthetics for £75.

A Cheeky Bonus!

June 3rd is my BIRTHDAY!!! and I hear that Connaught Avenue is having a street party to celebrate. Pop into The Mews Therapy Rooms for our open afternoon where Susie will me making necklaces to order, we will have refreshments and professional photographer Victoria Filby will be offering 5 Queen themed portraits for £15 to remember the day. Although I’m not quite sure why Her Majesty needs to be involved.

Anti-ageing tip!

Throw away your facial scrubs!

Scrubs commonly contain jagged or rough micro-particles that are intended to physically slough off dry skin. However, these little particles (apart from often being terrible for the environment) cause traumatic micro-tears that over time makes your skin more vulnerable to environmental damage and thus accelerated skin ageing.

Instead, use gentle chemical exfoliants and water based moisturisers that allow your skin to naturally exfoliate. Or you can book in for any of our exfoliating treatments once per month. Ask in clinic or drop me a message for more details.

I hope you find some of this interesting and useful. Keep a lookout for my mid-month write up on microneedling.

Best wishes to you all,

Helen x

I Have Been Nominated for a Tendring Blue Ribbon Award!

I’m Pleased as Punch!

Last week one of my very loyal patients told me that she had nominated Happy Face Aesthetics for a Tendring Blue Ribbon award. I was surprised to say the least, and wondered what I had done to deserve this. We chatted about it and my imposter syndrome was crushed when she reminded me of how far I have brought the business.

Happy Face Aesthetics started in January 2019 as a part time endevour I practiced from my spare room at home around my NHS job as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. When I finally had enough patients, I left the NHS and 3 weeks later the very first lockdown began. This started a year of financial instability, uncertainty and stupid TikToks.

In January 2021 I pooled all my resources and rented a clinic room in The Mews Therapy Rooms on Connaught Avenue. I have very little money, but I did have a delusional idea that I could make the business work if I just kept trying. It did work!!!

Over the past year and a half my client group has continued to grow and I have many more loyal patients who appreciate my services, honesty and ethics. I am so grateful to attract the best type of patients who make me laugh, cry, learn and make my work a delight.

More recently, I have registered with the Care Quality Comission to ensure patient safety and continued high standards. I have continuously been adding new services to our menu, and hope to add more medical/surgical treatments over the coming year. I have also taken the front room at The Mews Therapy Rooms which has been turned into a beautiful reception area and gift shop.

The gift shop has allowed me to to work with some amazing local independent business women who supply us with beautiful Sea glass art (Susie, Sea Glass Cottage), T.H.E. Skincare (Vusi, Happiness Emporium), scented candles, waxes and diffusers (Jo, The Divine Candle Company), and crystals (Maxine, The Spiritual Worker).

Happy Face Aesthetics is always evolving and with your support, I know the future is bright.

If you would like to support my nomination for the Tendring Blue Ribbon awards please go to https://www.tendringblueribbon.org/nominate/ and select ‘Health, Care and wellness Sector Award’.

As ever, I appreciate all of your continued support, custom, reviews and nominations. I am so grateful for all of you.

Best wishes,

Helen
